I visited Malta and Gozo for the first time in 2001 and was totally captivated by the unique spirit of the islands which has continued to inspire my work ever since. The honey-coloured rock rising from the blue Mediterranean, the powerful fortifications and elegant towns and cities growing out of the rock and over all, the distinctive domes of the many churches play a major part in my work - as well as the gaily painted boats, the birds and flowers.
